WRR101 Focus on the Arts: And the DSO Music Teacher of the Year award goes to…

“Elementary music teachers often get overlooked with the hard work that they’re doing to educate our children, and so we wanted to give a time to recognize them and celebrate their accomplishments,” says Jennifer Guzman, Director of Education for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. The DSO has tapped Chris Drews from Leslie A. Stemmons Elementary School in Dallas to be this year’s recipient of their Music Teacher of the Year award, coinciding with Music in our Schools Month. In this feature with WRR’s Amy Bishop, Guzman discusses the importance of music education, plus gives an overview of the DSO’s own very active education outreach initiatives.

PLUS: The DSO invites you to join them on the Meyerson stage on Sunday, April 7 from 7-8pm to hear the Kim Noltemy Young Musicians Orchestra on the first half of the program, followed by Young Strings student soloists. This general admission event is free to the public. Click here for more info!
