“Her rediscovery has really been the biggest red “Her rediscovery has really been the biggest rediscovery of a composer,” says Maestro John Jeter, referencing the music of 20th century African-American composer Florence Price. Jeter is the only music director who has recorded Price’s repertoire in its entirety, and his new album on Naxos includes her concerti for violin, piano, and orchestral snapshots of Southern life. In this interview with WRR’s @brookealyn_cellist, Jeter gives a sneak peek into the new recordings and shares why he is drawn to Price’s music. Head to the link in our bio to listen.
On Christmas Day in 1974, 5-year-old Michelle Mill On Christmas Day in 1974, 5-year-old Michelle Miller Burns received her first Nancy Drew book, The Thirteenth Pearl, from her parents.

Decades later, Burns is still collecting Nancy Drew books, which she says inspired her journey from when she was a young violinist to now leading the @dallassymphony as president and CEO.

In many ways, Burns saw herself in Nancy Drew.

“She was courageous and curious. She was smart, she was adventuresome. That showed me that a young woman could be all of those things in society. I feel like that is just as true today, and our need to make sure that there is continued representation for young women,” Burns said.

When Bruce DuBose put An Iliad on the Undermain Th When Bruce DuBose put An Iliad on the Undermain Theatre schedule, he didn’t know he was going to have a stroke a few months before the production. Lying in the hospital, the artistic director of the long-running Dallas institution wondered if he’d be able to perform it. The play based on Homer’s epic poem set toward the end of the Trojan War is nearly a one-man show.

He asked for the script while still in ICU. Rehearsing it has become part of DuBose’s recovery.

“I thought it would be good to have that challenge for my memorization and vocally and physically to lean into and help,” he says in an interview at Undermain’s Deep Ellum headquarters a week before the opening. “At the same time, I wanted audiences to still get everything from it. I didn’t want my ability to stand in the way of that. So I did take some time while I was working on the text again to ask, ‘Is this going to be good for everybody involved?’ I reached a point where I thought we can do this.”
